We are thrilled to share that we’ve officially kicked off the XTREME project.

On the 11-12th January 2024, IT University in Copenhagen (IT-Universitetet i København), the XTREME project coordinator, welcomed more than 40 participants from 14 different partner organizations from all over Europe.

“XTREME – Mixed Reality Environment for Immersive Experience of Art and Culture” is an 8.0 million-euro Horizon Europe project focused on developing mixed reality technology for the arts and culture industry. The end goal of the project is to utilize cutting-edge mixed reality (MR) technology to transport concerts and performing art events into users’ homes or any desired environment. Participants will enjoy a fully immersive experience with 3D visuals and spatial sound seamlessly blended into their surroundings creating immersion and a sense of presence as if they were in the concert hall, museum, or theater. Artistic partners are, among others, MUNCH in Oslo (Munchmuseet), as well as the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in Helsinki.

During the 2 days we got a chance to get to know each other, plan the project activities, as well as spend time together in more informal settings.

The meeting was organized by Sami Brandt XTREME Project Coordinator and Justyna Starostka, XTREME Project manager, with big help from other ITU colleagues: Lisbeth Breinholt, Melanie Büscher, Louise Mørch Mortensen, and Stella Graßhof.

We are glad that Adelina Dinu from the European Commission joined the meeting virtually; thank you! Many thanks also to the members of the project’s Advisory Committee: Pille Pruulmann-Vengerfeldt from University of Malmö and Joaquim Jorge from University of Lisboa in Portugal, for joining us in Copenhagen.

Thank you to all partners for engaging and inspiring time together!
Stay tuned for next project updates. 🎉
