In May 2026, 4DSOUND hosted a Masterclass and open Demo Room showcasing their spatial audio technology as part of a larger residency that also included three performances within the 4DSOUND environment, showcasing XTREME developments in the area of immersive spatial sound environments used in the mixed reality productions. The events took place in the De Singel in Antwerp, Belgium.

The masterclass focused on Spatial Thinking and interaction design for 4DSOUND systems. One of the central topics was the 4DS XR Framework, developed for XTREME. Poul Holleman introduced the session, while Marijn Cinjee – one of the developers behind the XTREME’s MUNCH use case – delivered an in-depth presentation and technical demonstration of the artistic concepts and technological innovations behind the framework.

Later, 4DSOUND opened the space to both professionals and the wider public through an interactive Demo Room, allowing visitors to experience and experiment with the technology firsthand. Particularly popular was the 4DS XR Demo, which enabled users to intuitively move sounds with their fingers, enter zones that triggered soundscapes and atmospheres, and interact through motion-based gestures, such as rattling virtual bracelets around their wrists. A standout moment was a spontaneously improvising dancer that demonstrated the expressive potential of these virtual interactions.

Amazing to see so much engagement from the audience.

deSingel is a major international arts center and campus in Antwerp. Located on the Desguinlei, it hosts a diverse year-round program of classical and contemporary music, theater, dance, and architecture. See more about deSingel here.
