The XTREME consortium gathered for its latest project meeting at the University of Bath from 2–4 July 2025. The three-day meeting brought together project partners for an in-depth review of progress across all work packages, collaborative workshops, demonstrations, and strategic planning sessions to support the next phases of the project.

Day 1 – 2 July: Work Package Progress and Project Status

The meeting opened with lunch at the University’s Lime Tree restaurant, followed by welcome remarks from Michael Yang, our host from University of Bath, and an overview of meeting objectives and project status by Sami S. Brandt, XTREME project coordinator. The afternoon focused on progress updates from all the work packages. These sessions provided valuable insights into ongoing work and highlighted key achievements and areas of focus for the coming months.

Day 2 – 3 July: Research, Dissemination, and Demonstrations

The second day was dedicated to research and dissemination activities, beginning with a Research Workshop led by Justyna Starostka from ITU, providing an interactive forum for partners to discuss research outputs and dissemination strategies. Afternoon sessions featured updates on data management (by Christian Sivertsen from ITU), communication and exploitation (by Lucas Katsikaris from Bolt Virtual), and accessibility (by Pat Brundell from the University of Nottingham). Demonstrations of the current XTREME prototype on the Apple Vision Pro headset, along with the festival environment, highlighted significant progress in key technical areas. The day concluded with a city tour of Bath, offering participants the opportunity to explore the Skyline path walk, followed by an official working dinner.

Day 3 – 4 July: Steering Board, Lab Tours, and Thematic Research

The final day began with a steering board meeting, running in parallel with a PhD student and postdoc session with AVP. The morning also featured informal demos and discussions, as well as a tour of the University’s HCI labs. The afternoon included a tour of the CAMERA Centre, followed by a thematic research session showcasing XTREME-related work from Bath researchers by Christof Lutteroth, Vinay Namboodiri and Danae Stanton Fraser. This final session offered a valuable exchange of perspectives and set the stage for continued collaboration.

The combination of technical demonstrations, research workshops, and thematic discussions underscored XTREME’s commitment to advancing the intersection of mixed reality, spatial sound, and cultural accessibility. We are excited to move forward towards the second phase of our project.
